These departments span nine underground levels beneath London, employing thousands of witches and wizards. Level: Level 2 | Status: Largest Ministry Department
The Department of Magical Law Enforcement is the most extensive and important department in the Ministry. It serves as the police force, court system, and regulatory body for all legal matters in the magical community. The department operates around the clock, responding to magical crimes, enforcing wizarding law, and protecting the wizarding community from dark magic.

Auror Office
Purpose: Elite squad that investigates and captures dark wizards
Requirements: Exceptional N.E.W.T. scores, three-year training program, physical and mental testing

Wizengamot Administration Services
Purpose: Supports the High Court of wizarding law

Fair-minded and just, highly respected throughout the Ministry. Known for her monocle and firm but fair judgments. Gave Harry a fair hearing in 1995. Murdered by Voldemort himself in 1996.
Rufus Scrimgeour
Former Head of Auror Office, became Minister for Magic. Grizzled, battle-scarred veteran. Tried to use Harry as Ministry propaganda. Died protecting Harry's location during Voldemort's takeover.
Pius Thicknesse
Placed under Imperius Curse by Death Eaters, became puppet Minister. Previously competent official corrupted by dark magic. Enforced anti-Muggle-born legislation.
Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes
Level: Level 3 | Function: Emergency Response and Damage Control
This department handles all magical mishaps, accidents, and emergencies. They are the first responders when magic goes wrong, specializing in memory modification, reversing accidental magic, and creating plausible non-magical explanations for magical events witnessed by Muggles.

Purpose: Reverses accidental magic and magical mishaps
