🕷️ Aragog
Aragog was a massive Acromantula (giant spider) who was raised by Rubeus Hagrid and lived in the Forbidden Forest with his descendants.
📋 Background
Aragog came to Hogwarts as an egg, illegally acquired by Hagrid when he was a student. Hagrid raised the spider in secret, keeping him in a cupboard in the castle. Hagrid's love for dangerous creatures began early, and Aragog became his first major secret.
🏰 Chamber of Secrets Incident
When the Chamber of Secrets was opened in 1943, a student (Myrtle Warren) was killed. Tom Riddle framed Aragog as the monster, claiming Hagrid had set the creature loose. Aragog was forced to flee into the Forbidden Forest, though he was innocent - the true monster was the Basilisk.
Hagrid was expelled and his wand was broken, but Dumbledore allowed him to stay as gamekeeper. Aragog remained in the forest, where Hagrid would visit him.
🕸️ Colony in the Forest
Hagrid found Aragog a wife (Mosag), and together they produced hundreds of offspring, creating a massive colony of Acromantulas deep in the Forbidden Forest. The spiders were carnivorous and dangerous, attacking anything that wandered into their territory.
🎭 Meeting Harry and Ron
When Harry and Ron followed spiders into the forest, they discovered Aragog. The ancient spider was nearly blind by this time, with milky white eyes. He spoke with them about the Chamber of Secrets, confirming he was not the monster and that he never saw it (as the creature was a Basilisk, whose very presence made spiders flee).
However, Aragog refused to let Harry and Ron leave, telling his children they could eat them. Only the intervention of the Weasley's flying car and Fang saved them from being devoured by hundreds of Acromantulas.
💀 Death
Aragog died of old age during Harry's sixth year. Hagrid was devastated and held a small funeral, which Professor Slughorn attended. Slughorn secretly took some of Aragog's valuable venom, as Acromantula venom is worth 100 Galleons a pint and is extremely rare.
After Aragog's death, his children were no longer restrained. During the Battle of Hogwarts, they descended on the castle, attacking indiscriminately until driven back into the forest by Hagrid.

💭 Relationship with Hagrid
Despite Aragog's dangerous nature and his willingness to let his children eat Harry and Ron, he remained loyal to Hagrid until his death. He never attacked Hagrid and spoke of him with affection. This unusual friendship demonstrated Hagrid's unique ability to connect with magical creatures, even those considered irredeemably dangerous.
