Overview

Acromantulas are massive, eight-eyed spiders capable of human speech. Originally bred by wizards for unknown purposes, these creatures are highly intelligent, carnivorous, and extremely dangerous.

Physical Characteristics

• Can grow to the size of a small elephant
• Eight eyes with poor vision in old age (can become completely white and blind)
• Thick black hair covering entire body
• Eight legs with joints that click when moving
• Large pincers capable of crushing prey
• Highly venomous - venom is valuable but dangerous to harvest

Behavior and Intelligence

Acromantulas possess near-human intelligence and can speak human languages. However, their carnivorous nature and predatory instincts make them inherently dangerous. They:

• Live in colonies with complex social structures
• Build dome-shaped webs in dense forests
• Are fiercely territorial
• Have strong family bonds and loyalty
• Prefer darkness and quiet environments

Diet

Acromantulas are carnivorous and will eat any living creature, including humans. Their natural prey includes large mammals, though they are opportunistic hunters and will consume whatever food is available.

Reproduction

Female Acromantulas can lay up to one hundred eggs at a time. The eggs are classified as Class A Non-Tradeable Goods, and their sale or trade is strictly prohibited. Acromantula colonies can grow rapidly if left unchecked.

Venom

Relationship with Basilisks

Acromantulas have an instinctive, mortal fear of Basilisks. They will flee at the first sign of the serpent and refuse to even speak its name. This ancient enmity is deeply ingrained in their nature.

Natural Habitat

Originally from the rainforests of Borneo, Acromantulas have been spread worldwide through illegal breeding. They prefer:

• Dense forests with heavy canopy cover
• Dark, secluded areas away from human settlements
• Environments where they can build large web structures

Danger Level

Acromantulas are considered one of the most dangerous magical creatures. They:

• Show no mercy to intruders in their territory
• Hunt in coordinated groups
• Can overpower even experienced wizards
• Are resistant to many stunning spells due to their size

Legal Status

Breeding Acromantulas is illegal. Any wizard found breeding, trading, or keeping Acromantulas faces severe legal consequences. The creatures are classified as too dangerous for private ownership under any circumstances.

Known Colonies

While the Ministry works to eliminate Acromantula colonies, several are known to exist in remote forested areas. The Forbidden Forest has historically housed at least one large colony, though exact locations are kept confidential for safety reasons.
