Kreacher is a house-elf who served the House of Black for generations. His loyalty to his masters and ultimate redemption make him one of the most complex house-elves in the series.
🏠 Early Service
Kreacher served the Black family at 12 Grimmauld Place for decades, particularly devoted to Walburga Black (Sirius's mother). When Sirius ran away, Kreacher viewed him as a blood traitor and remained hostile toward him throughout his life.
💔 Regulus Black
Kreacher's true loyalty belonged to Regulus Arcturus Black, Sirius's younger brother. When Voldemort borrowed Kreacher to test the Horcrux cave's defenses, he forced Kreacher to drink the poisonous potion and left him to die. Only Regulus's previous order to "come home" saved Kreacher's life.
When Regulus learned what happened, he took Kreacher back to the cave. Regulus drank the poison himself, ordered Kreacher to destroy the locket Horcrux, and then drowned at the hands of the Inferi. This act of self-sacrifice and concern for Kreacher's well-being created a lifelong devotion.

When Sirius treated Kreacher cruelly, the house-elf's resentment grew. He betrayed information to Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange, helping them lure Harry to the Department of Mysteries. This indirectly led to Sirius's death, though Harry later recognized that Sirius's mistreatment contributed to Kreacher's actions.

When Harry Potter inherited Kreacher and learned the truth about Regulus, everything changed. Harry:
