Protego Maxima is an extremely powerful shield charm capable of protecting large areas and multiple people simultaneously. It represents the apex of defensive magic.

Notable Uses
Battle of Hogwarts: Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, and other staff members combined Protego Maxima with Fianto Duri and Repello Inimicum to create an enormous protective shield around Hogwarts Castle. The shield held against Voldemort's forces for a considerable time before eventually shattering under sustained assault.
Shell Cottage: Bill Weasley maintained protective enchantments including Protego Maxima around his home to prevent Death Eaters from detecting Harry and his friends.
