๐Ÿ’€ Voldemort's Horcruxes ๐Ÿ’€

The darkest magic - splitting the soul

What is a Horcrux?

A Horcrux is an object in which a Dark wizard has hidden a fragment of their soul for the purpose of attaining immortality. Creating a Horcrux requires committing murder, which splits the soul. The fragment is then encased in an object through a dark magical ritual.

Key Facts:

  • โš ๏ธ Darkest and most evil magical practice
  • ๐Ÿ’” Requires murder to split the soul
  • ๐Ÿ”ฎ As long as a Horcrux exists, the creator cannot die
  • ๐Ÿ“– Information removed from Hogwarts library
  • โš”๏ธ Can only be destroyed by something that destroys beyond magical repair
  • ๐Ÿ Voldemort made SIX, more than any wizard in history

How to Destroy a Horcrux

Only a few things can destroy Horcruxes:

๐Ÿฆท Basilisk Venom

One of the few substances that destroys beyond magical repair. The Sword of Gryffindor absorbed it when Harry killed the Basilisk.

โš”๏ธ Sword of Gryffindor

Goblin-made, imbibes only what makes it stronger. After killing the Basilisk, it became infused with venom - perfect for destroying Horcruxes.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Fiendfyre

Cursed fire that destroys everything. Vincent Crabbe unleashed it in the Room of Requirement, destroying Ravenclaw's Diadem (and himself).

~1994

6. Nagini (the snake)

Murder: Bertha Jorkins

Hidden: Kept close to Voldemort, later protected by magical enchantments

Destroyed: Neville Longbottom using the Sword of Gryffindor (1998)

Notes: Only living Horcrux (besides Harry). Voldemort could see through her eyes. Final Horcrux destroyed before Voldemort himself.

1981

7. Harry Potter (ACCIDENTAL)

Murder: James and Lily Potter (intended for Harry)

How: When curse rebounded, Voldemort's already unstable soul split again, fragment latched onto Harry

Destroyed: Voldemort's Killing Curse in the Forbidden Forest (1998)

Notes: Neither knew Harry was a Horcrux. Gave Harry ability to speak Parseltongue and mental connection to Voldemort. Harry survived because Voldemort used Harry's blood to resurrect.

The Hunt for Horcruxes

Dumbledore spent years researching Voldemort's past, deducing that he had created multiple Horcruxes - unprecedented in magical history. He shared this knowledge with Harry in their private lessons during Harry's sixth year.

Dumbledore's Findings:

  • ๐Ÿ” Voldemort chose objects of significance - founder artifacts
  • ๐Ÿ”ข He intended to split his soul into SEVEN pieces (most magical number)
  • โš ๏ธ Two were already destroyed (diary and ring) by the time Dumbledore died
  • ๐Ÿ“œ The rest had to be found and destroyed before Voldemort could be killed

Why Horcruxes Were Voldemort's Downfall

Split Soul = Instability

Each split made Voldemort less human, less stable, more monstrous. His appearance changed, becoming snake-like.

False Sense of Security

Voldemort felt invincible, but Horcruxes could be destroyed. His arrogance blinded him to the danger.

Harry Connection

The accidental Horcrux in Harry gave Harry powers and insight into Voldemort's thoughts, ultimately helping defeat him.

Loss of Humanity

Cannot feel love or remorse. Splitting soul destroyed what made him human, his capacity for emotion and connection.

Dumbledore on Horcruxes

"Well, you split your soul, you see, and hide part of it in an object outside the body. Then, even if one's body is attacked or destroyed, one cannot die, for part of the soul remains earthbound and undamaged. But of course, existence in such a form..."

"Few would want it, Tom, very few. Death would be preferable."
